bhoomikaRajasekhar turns angry young man again

Rajasekhar played the role of an angry young man in many films earlier and all those films were big hits. However, he had no notable hits to his credit in recent times. Though he faced successive flops, he did not give up acting and at the same time, he started trying his luck on his routine chosen path of selecting successful films from other languages. He tried his luck by selecting ‘Hello’ a Malayalam hit film as the subject for his latest film. However, the success mantra of Malayalam film industry failed repeat the same magic in Telugu and the response to his film on the first day itself proved that the people almost started ignoring him as hero.

rideA true youthful film with a pinch of sentiment

After the first film proved a dud, director Ramesh Varma took a considerable gap, and got ready with an interesting and youthful film. He doesn’t took the audiences for a ride this time, though he titled the film as ‘Ride’. In order to have a smooth ride, he chose artistes who were neither debutants, nor had a huge experience in films and gained an image of their own. His plan worked out as the artistes played fearlessly as camera was not new to them and at the same time, the director was able to extract the correct performance he needed for the character from them. Finally the film came like a perfect mixture of love, action and youthful movie.

Kavya DiaryAn off-beat story with no takers

Charmme, who bagged a big success with ‘Mantra’ had no hits to her credit after that film. She faced successive failures and was in depression. She kept high hopes on her latest film ‘Kavya’s Diary’ produced by Manjula. It is worth mentioning here that Indira Productions bagged a national award for best screenplay for its debut film ‘Show’. Though the second film ‘Nani’ with Maheshbabu was a dud, the banner not only regained its strength but also created a new record in the entire south Indian film industry through ‘Pokiri’ in association with Puri Jagannath’s Vaishno Academy, again with Maheshbabu as hero. Though ‘Kavya’s Diary’ was completed long ago, it failed to do any business possibly because of the successive failures of Charmme. Somehow, the film hit the screen on June 5.

aa okkaduA film with different and typical twists

Taking a plot by choosing some kind of disease is well known among the story writers. This time, NS Murthy chose criminal psychology and tried to develop a story based on some kind disease to maintain the suspense. However, the director ignored everything by the time he penned the climax giving a huff-huff ending to the entire story. The film makers, who produced the film, were hitherto known among the industry circles as overseas distributors, but made an attempt to make a direct entry as producer. To prevent heavy budget, they promoted Ajay, who shot into fame as villain with Vikarmarkudu, as hero and a new face Madhurima as heroine.

Yet another suspense thriller with Sivaji

Bollywood is known for bringing out good suspense, thriller and horror stories. However, the Tollywood too made inroads into it, and films like ‘Mantra’, ‘Anasuya’ which are basically suspense thriller subjects were proved big hits in recent times. With the success of ‘Mantra’, its producer Chukka Kalyanram, looked for yet another suspense thriller subject and okayed Yandamuri Virendranath’s story. The film made with a relatively low budget and hence, he chose Sivaji as hero again, as he is affordable and adequate to the story. At the same time, the megaphone was handed over to a debutant Machakanti Ramakrishna, a novice. However, he handled the story by penning screenplay for himself.

prayanamManoj excels in facial expressions

Manoj, though entered into films, a few years ago, failed to leave a mark of his own with no notable hits to his credit. He tried his best in mass, action, comedy and film with a different concept like ‘Nenu Meeku Telusa’, but could not get a necessary break. At this juncture, he got an opportunity to work with an efficient director like Chandrasekhar Yeleti, who is known for best screenplay and films with different concept with movies like ‘Aithe’, ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’ and ‘Okkadunnadu’. In fact, he is the one and only director at present who dares to chose a concept which is truly different from routine. His latest film ‘Prayanam’ was prepared with one such typical concept of building love in two hours time.

shreyaA mass masala film from Vishal

GK Film Corporation, which had brought several action and mass entertainers like ‘Pandem Kodi’, ‘Pogaru’, ‘Bharani’, ‘Bhayya’ and ‘Salute’ with Vishaal, produced yet another mass film with hot and young sensation Shriya in the female lead. Like many other young and upcoming heroes, Vishaal too is getting fixed in a particular image for himself and could not come out of it. Once again, he played hero in an action entertainer. The entire first half was nagging, boring with unnecessary love track with nothing worth watching. However, the story picks momentum in the second half with complete action.

targetMumait proves with performance

Films with action genre, involving heroines in lady-oriented films, are not new to the Telugu audiences. Especially, heroine taking revenge for the injustice done to her, is also not new. Vijayalalitha and Vijayanirmala of yester years had portrayed such roles some 30 years ago. The same was polished and was brought out by Ramesh Rajaa, with a different and novel narration. Especially, the director took special interest in extracting the acting talents of Mumait Khan, unlike other directors who tried to cash in on her physical glamour and oomph. She too was so cautious in delivering her performance in a balanced manner and it gained an above average and near success talk.

A missile on deep rooted corruption

Of late, criticising the corruption, lambasting politics, highlighting the red-tapism and official apathy had become a fad for the film directors. Many films came with these themes in their backdrop. Posani Krishnamurali, who is known for his aggressiveness, both on and off the screen, brought out a film to highlight the corruption among the government departments. He tried to explain how money could change things. If you have the money, you could prove that there is something, where there is nothing and vice-versa. Unlike his earlier film ‘Mental Krishna’ where he got a rebuke for his meaningless act, this film has powerful dialogues which make the audiences to rethink about the society and the corruption.

Ravi Teja, Ileana Kick Review

kick‘Kick’

Raviteja is known for his style. Especially he maintains perfect comedy timing and many of his films were proved hits because of his performance mixed with comedy. However, his combination with Ileana was a disaster in ‘Khatarnak’. The excessive dose of comedy and the unnecessary exposure of the heroine was said to be the reasons behind the failure. Surender Reddy, who shot into limelight with ‘Athanokkade’ which is a blockbuster, failed to deliver a hit on those lines in his second and third films. In order to regain his image, he tried his best with the help of Raviteja and tested his luck with Ileana. But for the poor narration of the first half, the film remained an average flick.

tamannaNot very unique but worth watching

It is well aware that AVM Productions is a prestigious banner, and an upcoming actress like Tamanna bagging a chance in such a big banner is a boon. Moreover, she was cast opposite a star hero like Suriya. This is the 174th movie on the banner. A cinematographer turned director KV Anand for the first time wielded the megaphone for the movie. Leave alone the story and the scenes that were copied from Hollywood blockbusters like “Blood Diamond, Catch me If you can, Maria Full of Grace”, the director KV Anand made the audiences to sit tight in their seats from the beginning till the end. In fact, he penned the story with a perfect research and gave several tips to the smugglers in how many ways one could smuggle diamonds, heroin and other narcotics. Above all, the dedication of the hero Suriya in the film is enough. Besides all these, Tamanna’s gorgeous looks and the perfect chemistry that worked out between Suriya and Tamanna would be a feat to the eyes of the audiences.
