A hilarious family entertainer

Kirankumar Adavi had earlier directed ‘Vinayakudu’. Though the film was made with new stars, with the heroine Sonia, having hardly had an experience of only one film to her credit, the film proved a runaway hit, with Krishnudu, a fatty, as hero. Keeping the success in mind, Mahi penned one more story on similar lines, with the big fat body in mind, and again chose Kirankumar as director again. This time the writer chose a village backdrop, while the first film ‘Vinayakudu’ has urban backdrop. The director penned a fantastic screenplay and made best use of the lush green locales of the village atmosphere and brought out yet another hilarious film, with instant situational comedy.

Colonel Lakshmipati (Rao Ramesh) is a disciplined man. He retires from the service. He had two younger brothers and one sister. Theirs a joint family with Lakshmipati as the head of the family and enjoy the village life. Lakshmipati had a daughter called Kavya (Saranya Mohan), who completes her MBBS and practices as doctor in city. Lakshmipati loves his daughter so much as she lost her mother in her childhood. At the same time, Kavya too gives the same respect to her father. Lakshmipati looks for a disciplined groom for his daughter and fails to select any boy though his close friend and advocate Bhaskaram (Yandamuri Virendranath) brings about 19 alliances. For the 20th time, he brings the album of a young man called Bharat (Dr Bharat Reddy), who also works in the army and is the son of one of Lakshmipati’s colleague.

Though Lakshmipati is happy with all his qualifications, he refuses him as the shoe he wore in the photograph was dirty. Meanwhile, Kavya befriends with Karthik (Krishnudu), who is a fatty, as she liked his attitude, mentality and good nature. She strongly believes that he is a perfect match to her. At this juncture, Lakshmipati’s niece (brother’s daughter) gets engaged and Kavya too completes her internship and returns to the village. On learning that Lakshmipati is looking for a groom to her, Kavya decides to convince his father through the family and tells all the members of her family about Karthik. Everyone feel very happy and creates a good atmosphere to reveal about Karthik to Lakshmipati. At this juncture, Karthik lands in the village. The entire family becomes shell-shocked after watching the fat man and try to convince Kavya to avoid him as their pair would look odd. But Kavya is firm on her love. So, Karthik goes straight to Lakshmipati and explains his love towards Kavya and the latter maintains cool. However, he could not accept Karthik as his son-in-law.

Lakshmipati tries in many ways to avoid Karthik and even brings in Bharat and try to convince Kavya that Bharat is a better choice but in vain. In the race, Karthik reveals his love towards Kavya to Bharat himself and the latter understands the situation. On one occasion, when Karthik tries to support Lakshmipati’s nephew (brother’s son) who wanted to pursue hotel management, Lakshmipati bursts out and almost necks out Karthik. Realising that he could not convince Lakshmipati, Karthik walks out of village and tries to erase Kavya’s memories. Kavya too silently accepts her father’s wish. But, Bhaskaram convinces Lakshmipati that Karthik is a better choice. The film ends on a happy note with Lakshmipati going to the city and inviting Karthik again into the life of Kavya.

PLUS:

As the title suggests, the entire story revolved around Krishnudu, the hero. He gave an excellent performance as an innocent, straightforward and outspoken young man. In fact, the hero took the entire responsibility in running the show, with the assistance of Rao Ramesh and Yandamuri Virendranath. The characterisation of Rao Ramesh is also perfect and it reminds the audiences that he could be a perfect replacement of Prakash Raj, as the audiences could remember him on many occasions and in many scenes. Yandamuri Virendranath played a full-length role in this film for the first time, in a role which could be portrayed by senior artistes like Gollapudi Maruti Rao and MS Narayana. Another highlight of the film is the music by Manikanth Kadri. All the tunes are melodious and nice to listen. Cinematography by Rams is another highlight. He perfectly captured the village atmosphere in right manner. The selection of Rajole for the film is one of the best choices of the director. The best part of the film is decent situational comedy.

MINUS:

Despite a bubbly and charming face and slim personality, Saranya Mohan is the only disappointment in the film. She is the only odd personality in the film and is not a perfect match to Krishnudu. She is too childish to Krishnudu and her performance was completely diluted before other artistes. The chemistry between Krishnudu and Saranya failed to match properly. But for the heroine, the entire film is okay in all the aspects. Apparently, the director chose to highlight the hero Krishnudu and the Colonel character and gave much prominence to these two artistes and ignored the heroine.

REMARKS:

The Nandi award winner for best debut direction, Kirankumar Adavi, once again came up with another neat comedy film like ‘Villagelo Vinayakudu’. The healthy comedy and non-stop entertainment, coupled with the family sentiment thread worked out well. The film would definitely go well with family audiences and have many chances to prove a hit film, provided it gets good publicity through mouth-talk. Once the film gets a good mouth-talk publicity, definitely the film could ring the box office with family audiences. However, the absence of mass elements may have a negative impact on the film as the mass audiences may not like such neat comedy entertainer. But as a whole it is a wholesome entertainer and a decent watch for the entire family, though not so big when compared with the earlier film ‘Vinayakudu’.
