sasirekha parinayamUnworthy film from a worthy director

Though Krishnavamsi had several hits to his credit, his success ratio had come down drastically with successive failures. At a time when everyone is thinking that the creativity of the creative director is disappearing, he recreated his magic and proved his calibre by bringing out a family drama like 'Chandamama'. It came out as a fantastic blockbuster giving much relief to his failure record. Keeping the success of a romantic and feel good drama, Krishnavamsi tried another love subject. However, the unexpected and unwanted twists made the film boring right before the interval bang till the climax.

Sasirekha (Genelia) is the only daughter of a landlord (Ahuti Prasad) and escapes from her house as her father arranges her marriage with an NRI boy Abhimanyu (Tarun) without consulting her. She gets away from the house with lot of jewellery and accidentally meets Anand (Tarun). It is just a coincidence and Anand helps Sasi as she gets frightened due to some incidents that take place during her bid to reach Hyderabad. They turn good friends after a few incidents and the friendship reaches to an extent that Sasi could not tolerate Anand move or flirt with another girl. Realising that Sasi is coming in line and is almost falling in love, Anand thought of revealing the truth that he is not Anand but Abhi who wanted to marry her. But he could not do so as it might boomerang in a wrong way. However, while they try to reach Hyderabad in a lorry, several agitators also board the same lorry and they start staging protest right from the moment they reach the place. The police resort to lathi-charge as the agitation turns violent resulting in injuries to Sasi. What happened to Sasi? Did Sasi reveal her love towards Abhi? Did Abhi reveal his real identity to Sasi? Did Sasi and Abhi's parents realise their follies? How the marriage of Sasi and Abhi take place? Answers to all these questions form part of the climax.

PERFORMANCE:

The title suggests that the film would be a heroine-oriented one. The director too chose to highlight the heroine's character and tried to cash in on her success image as the hero is facing a bad period with a faded image. True to his expectations, Genelia gave a nice performance. However, the audiences could noticed the traces of Hasini in Genelia's characterisation. In many scenes, Genelia sported the same innocent face and her body language remained to remind Hasini in 'Bommarillu'. Tarun did his best as the hero of the film. He was very casual and routine and did not go overboard at any point of time. However, the heroine got a bigger footage than the hero in the film. Other artistes including Ahuti Prasad, Paruchuri Gopalakrishna, Raghubabu, Subbaraju and others did complete justice to their roles. Ahuti Prasad's role is also appeared to be an extension of his role in 'Chandamama'.

sasirekha parinayamTECHNICAL:

Among technicians, Manisharma needs kudos as he gave melodious tunes to all the songs. However, the director failed to make use of the melody in the songs due to the improper placement of songs. Editing by Shankar is the biggest drawback in the film. He should have sharpened his scissors further especially in the second half. The scenes that were shot at Nagarjuna Sagar, some chases escaped safely from cuts by the editor. Cinematography by Bhaskar Samala is average. Though the film was shot in the picturesque Konaseema, the cameraman failed to capture the beauty of the greenery in the area. Unfortunately, none of the department worked well as the team leader and the director himself treaded a wrong path after a 40-minute run of the film. The film's tempo went haywire due to the over-enthusiasm of the director. Several lapses occurred in the run of the story and the film remained a boring movie.

ANALYSIS:

The director, who is known for bringing out good family subjects and had high regard towards the Telugu tradition and culture chose to use a language which is unworthy to listen. Many of the dialogues penned for Ahuti Prasad, though routine for the people of Konaseema, are not supposed to be exact on the screen as it has some ethics. Even some of the dialogues uttered by the heroine which were meant to slam some one should have been toned down. Director Krishnavamsi started knitting a beautiful design, but changed the course and finally it took the shape of a cobweb and the director was unable to wriggle out the cobweb. As a whole it is an unworthy film from a worthy director.
