A missile on deep rooted corruption

Of late, criticising the corruption, lambasting politics, highlighting the red-tapism and official apathy had become a fad for the film directors. Many films came with these themes in their backdrop. Posani Krishnamurali, who is known for his aggressiveness, both on and off the screen, brought out a film to highlight the corruption among the government departments. He tried to explain how money could change things. If you have the money, you could prove that there is something, where there is nothing and vice-versa. Unlike his earlier film ‘Mental Krishna’ where he got a rebuke for his meaningless act, this film has powerful dialogues which make the audiences to rethink about the society and the corruption.

Raja (Posani Krishnamurali) is a very sincere police officer. He faces several problems for doing his duty sincerely due to pressures from his higher officials and because of corrupt politicians. Once he arrests the brother of an MLA’s (Shakeel Khan) brother who turned a stalker and was responsible for a girl losing her eyesight. But, he gets released by an ACP (Jackie). Brahmaji (Brahmaji), another superior officer of Raja, is also a hand-in-glove with the MLA. However, Raja gets back the MLA’s brother with the help of the media and gets his eyes removed and arranged to the victim, who lost her sight. A girl called Naina (Naina), who was the lone witness to the crime, agrees to depose her evidence in the court.

The MLA’s brother gets convicted and Naina marries Raja. With his brother jailed by Raja, the MLA decides to take revenge and as part of the game plan, the MLA kill a big political leader (his own father-in-law), with the help of his wife. Stating that the political leader died because of Raja, the higher officials dismiss Raja from his job. Now, Raja decides to take revenge against the politicians and at the same time wants to highlight the corruption. With the help of the media, he starts sting operation at the instance of Chief Minister. He bribes a whole lot of government officials and also the politicians and gets official sanction for a fish tank. One fine morning he starts the drama that his fish tank was kidnapped.

He reveals that the government officers, who certified that he owned land, dug a tank, released 30,000 fish and even one bank offers him Rs 2 lakh loan and also avails government subsidy were the witnesses about the existence of his fish tank which disappeared now. Did the government officials agree that they are corrupt? Or did they get back the inexistent fish tank into reality? What kinds of plans Raja made to prove his point? Answers to all these questions had to be seen on the screen.

PERFORMANCE:

Posani Krishnamurali proved that he is an excellent performer in this film. He is good as police officer in the first half and as a trickster in the second half. His dialogue modulation remained an asset for the film and though the dialogues are lengthy, they were spelt with correct timing and modulation. The dialogues penned by himself are through provoking too. Putting a serious face, he gave his best as an artiste all through the film. Perhaps for the first time, he appeared in a duet too. Naina was introduced as heroine through this film. Though she could not show any feelings with her facial expression, she got a good scope to perform in the second half. She was so bold to accept to appear in nude pose for more than 20 minutes (of course the body was morphed with graphic) as per the demand of the story. Other artistes including Kota Srinivasa Rao, Shakeel Khan, Raghubabu, Krishna Bhagawan, MS Narayana, Venumadhav and others did justice to their respective roles. Jubaid Khan, sister of Mumait Khan, played a vamp role in this movie.

TECHNICAL:

With the director-cum-hero himself penning the story, dialogues, screenplay, the film had a perfect movement without giving boredom to the audiences. Of course, the film has no comedy track despite the presence of a whole lot of comedians of the Telugu film industry. The dialogues in the film are quite lengthy and most of them are thought provoking. He highlighted the corruption in police department, pressures by the politicians and other such points in this film. In fact, the film has no big story, but the screenplay made the movement to run on a steady pace. Likewise, there was a delicate link between the first and second half of the film. Camera work by Gadiraju Srinivas is adequate. The production values of Lakshmi Ganapati films are okay.

ANALYSIS:

When compared with the earlier films of Posani Krishnamurali, this film is far better and is thought-provoking. Had he employed another hero by taking up the direction for himself, the film would be a disaster. Posani’s dialogue modulation gave life to the film on many occasions. Though the film has a political touch, it mainly concentrated on the deep rooted corruption in our society. The abrupt ending of the film was the basic drawback of the movie. The film has nothing to offer on entertainment front. The film could be recommended for serious viewers, but not for those who go to a theatre for entertainment and relaxation. However, there are a couple of dialogues with an obvious reference to ‘Praja Rajyam’ in the climax.

Cast: Posani Krishnamurali, Naina, Brahmanandam, Ali, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Raghubabu, MS Narayana, Krishna Bhagawan, Sunil, Venumadhav, Giribabu, Ranganath, Chalapati Rao, Kondavalasa Lakshmana Rao, Brahmaji, Jockey, Prabhakar, Shakeel Khan, Jubaid Khan, Pragati, Sana and others are in the cast.
