ninnu kalisakaA neat explanation of the expression called ‘Love’

Ushakiron Movies is the banner, which gave several hit films to the Telugu film industry. After taking some gap, the banner had come out with yet another love story called ‘Ninnu Kalisaka’ as its 83rd film under the direction of Siva Nageswara Rao. The director is known for bringing out good comedies, but he too deviated from that path and took up a love subject. Another speciality is that the director himself made an on-screen presence in this film and narrated the love story. The film explained the delicate and thin line between the words — Love and Friendship. The director succeeded in his attempt to explain the real meaning of the two words.

Chandu (Chaitanya) and Bindu (Priya) are in love, while Abhiram (Santosh) and Deepti (Deepa Sha) are the other couple which loved each other. Abhiram and Bindu are software engineers. While Chandu is a good artiste and is fond of dances and choreographing of dance ballets. Deepti is a student of fashion designing in NIFT. Once Abhiram and Bindu go to the US on a project work and join in a US firm. They meet on way to the US and to their surprise they find themselves as neighbours. Chandu and Bindu, Abhi and Deepti keep in touch with the others for some time over phones and mails. At the same time Abhi and Bindu become good friends in the US. After a few turn of events, Abhi gets attracted towards Bindu. Incidentally, Chandu and Deepti meet each other and respect the feelings of others.

Deepti encourages Chandu when he stages ‘The Titanic’ play on the stage. Later, Chandu plans to participate in a mime show whose prize money was Rs 1 lakh, besides a car. Deepti assures him to design costumes for the show. While practising the dance, the female artiste fails to cooperate well with Chandu. However, all the members of the team notice Deepti performing the same role excellently on her own in a corner. At the behest of all the team members, Deepti agrees to share the stage with Chandu. As expected, the mime show played by Chandu and Deepti wins the award. While announcing the award, the choreographer Tarun Master who announced the judgment, felt that they performed excellently on the screen because they were in love. While accepting that they are in love, Chandu and Deepti say, ‘We are not in love with each other but we have lovers and we are just friends only.’ Once the project was completed, the MD of their company gifts $15,000 to Abhiram and Bindu and relieves them to India. During their return journey, both Abhiram and Bindu feel very bad for getting separated but could not express their feelings to others.

n the plane, Abhi meets Hero Jagapatibabu and explains him the situation that he was already in love, but now got attracted towards Bindu. Jagapatibabu after listening the entire story scribbles something on a paper and tells him not to open it until he takes a decision. At the same time, he advises Abhiram not to think about the issue with the brain but listen to his heart. In the climax, he realises that his interest towards Bindu is just an attraction and his true love is with Deepti and Deepti too thinks on the same lines. In fact, that is what Jagapatibabu scribbled on the paper that first love is the best and others are just an attraction. With this the film ends on a happy note.

PLUS:

The movement of the film totally depended on the screenplay. In fact, it is a delicate subject and there is no big story at all. As was said in the intro, the director just tried to explain the real meaning of friendship and love and how love / attraction generates between a boy and a girl. The director clearly explains that the present generation youth know their limits very well and are not going beyond them. Though appears comedy, the love track between a bald-headed youth and Sudeepa too has some meaning in it. When one sincerely proposes or loves a girl, the latter would definitely accept it though he is not very handsome.

Krishnudu tried to add some giggle by using the typical Godavari districts accent. As far as the artistes, both the heroes performed well, while Chaitanya excelled in dances, Priya is quite chivalrous, Deepa Sha filled the glamour slot. When compared with Chaitanya, Bindu had a bigger footage and he got a good scope to show emotions on the screen. But, Chaitanya took the cake as he got the chance to show all emotions in the name of stage plays (Titanic and mime show). Comedy by MS Narayana and Master Bharat remained just average. All the technical departments including camera, music and the editing worked in complete coordination and made the film watchable.

MINUS:

The only draw back of the film is the mass element. There are no mass elements in the film. Though a couple of duets appeared romantic it may not pull the crowds (mass audiences) to the theatre. Though the film was brought out as a neat and clean family entertainer, the missing of mass elements, action would play a key role in making the film commercially not viable. Comedy track too failed to take a backseat in this movie, though the director is known for bringing out very good comedy films. The director himself tried to provide some comedy by playing a serious role in this movie but totally failed in this aspect. But for the poor comedy and mass elements, the film has no big minus points. Though a debutant, Chaitanya showed flexibility in body language but Santosh is yet to pick up his movements to remain in the industry.

REMARKS:

For those who are interested in a slow but clean subject, the film is okay but for those who expect stylish dances, action scenes and entertainment, it is a no no. However, it is a must watch for the youth as they should realise and understand the true meaning of love, attraction and friendship. Though the director says that the present generation youth are well aware of the difference between these words, the way how he explained had to be seen by the youth. Both the stage shows including ‘Titanic’ and the ‘Mime Show’ are worth watching on the screen. Ushakiron Movies’ production values are commendable.
