akasamanthaAn perfect portrayal of parental love (Rating: 3.25 / 5)

Dil Raju, who was once a film distributor, turned a producer and brought several films on the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations. All the films that came on the banner were hits and he did not face a flop till date. All his films were straight movies and he did not go for dubbing till date. However, to promote his close friend and artiste Prakash Raj, who had produced a film ‘Abhiyum, Naanum’ in Tamil, he took the Telugu remake rights. Unfortunately, the film proved an average movie there and the success is doubtful in Telugu. To avoid the flop talk for the film and to drive the film on a hit path, Dil Raju chose to make certain changes and reshot certain scenes. This had benefited a lot and the film ‘Akasamanta’ turned out a big success in Telugu now.

The film begins with Raghuram (Prakash Raj) goes on a morning walk. He meets Sudhakar (Jagapatibabu) in a park, who was playing with his daughter. After entertaining his daughter for a few minutes, Sudhakar relaxes on a bench. Raghuram shares his experiences regarding his daughter Abhi (Trisha) with Sudhakar. He narrates how he brought her up. Raghuram was so affectionate and friendly with his daughter. When Raghuram’s wife Anita (Aiswarya) tells him to join Abhi in a school, he feels bad as if she is being separated from him. He could not leave his daughter in the school and turns so sentimental. Later, she grows up and joins a high school. Then she wants to go to the school on her own like all her friends on a bicycle.

Raghuram who keeps dropping her on his jeep, fears how she would go to the school alone. He was so affectionate towards her. Later, Abhi pleads with her father that she wanted to join MBA in Delhi at JNTU. Raghuram unwillingly accepts her wish and somehow spends two years and feels happy after her return. At that time, Abhi gives him a shock saying that she fell in love with one Joginder Singh. Though Raghuram himself loves Anita and marries her against her parents’ wish, he could not accept Abhi’s love like any other father of a daughter. However, he accepts her love and finally Abhi marries Jogi and Raghuram realises that it is all a part of life and the film ends on a happy note, with the marriage. The film was shot in a narration and the director made it very impressive and he really took the audiences into the subject.

PERFORMANCE:

Prakash Raj really lived in the character. His performance is ultimate and no other artiste could do justice to that role like him. Without Prakash Raj the film has nothing. His body language, his facial expressions, sudden change in looks are simply superb. The scenes where a beggar was taken one of their family members, the scene in the hotel, the change in looks in not accepting a boy who wants to marry his daughter were fantastically portrayed on the screen by him. Though Prakash Raj played the father’s roles for many heroes and heroines, his role in this film is above all his earlier characters.

Trisha played his daughter. Her character appears a little arrogant and it needs to be like that because her father pampers her so much right from her childhood. She too gave a nice performance in the movie. All the other artistes including Aiswarya as Prakash Raj’s wife, Talaivasal Vijay as Prakash Raj’s friend, Ganesh Venkatraman as Trisha’s lover and Karunavel as servant did complete justice to their roles. Jagapatibabu had not much role to play but played a key role as he keeps on listening to the narration by Prakash Raj.

akasamanthaTECHNICAL:

Cinematography by Preetha is another asset for the movie. He was able to capture the greenery and the nativity of grand vegetation in a perfect manner. He did not go for unnecessary experiments and presented what all in the mind of the director on the screen. Especially, the way the camera captures the moods and facial expressions of Prakash Raj is interesting. Marthand K Venkatesh also did a very good job in editing the film in perfect manner and there are absolutely no boring scenes. Dialogues penned by three writers are good to listen. Lyrics are okay and the song ‘Aatala… Paatala…’ is melodious and good to listen. Though Vidyasagar’s music is not that great, the re-recording elevated the mood of the film at times. Last but not the least, the director really filled a lot of freshness and sweetness of parental love towards children all through the film.

ANALYSIS:

Capturing the audiences pulse is an art. Dil Raju mastered in this art. Almost all his films would prove the same fact. He himself proved a producer with a good taste. The children grow year after year and likewise their parents too will turn mature. The film explains in a best way how a father turn mature year after year. It is a must watch film for every daughter and every father and a very good film to watch along with the family. Despite no mass elements, the impressive narration made the film very interesting.
