Venkata Bangaru Raju was Krishna Vamsi's original name, the name given by his father. He said he did not like the name bacause his friends used to make fun of him by calling him Bangaram. Vamsi changed his name based on a novel by Thenneti Hema Latha called 'Mohana Vamsi'. It is a story of how a human being Krishna became a God. He liked the name Vamsi from the novel and then changed his name to it. Later Ramgopal Varma changed it to Krishna Vamsi.
